Educational Requirements for MAI Designation

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS: To track your progress toward Designated membership, check your Associate Status Report.

Required Standards and Ethics Courses for All Appraisal Institute Associate Members:

1. Within the initial first-year cycle, provide proof of passing the 15-Hour National Uniform Standards of Professional Practice (USPAP) course and exam. Once past the initial cycle, the 7-Hour USPAP may be taken instead for subsequent Standards and Ethics cycles.
   
   NOTE: Members who practice solely outside the United States may complete the International Valuation Standards course instead of the USPAP course.
   
   
2. Complete the Appraisal Institute course, Business Practices and Ethics.

Educational Requirements for MAI Designated Membership

The following Level I Exams are waived by meeting AQB criteria/state general certification or earning certain degrees:

• Basic Appraisal Principles - View Classroom and Online Schedule, or Challenge Exam Available
• Basic Appraisal Procedures - View Classroom and Online Schedule, or Challenge Exam Available
• General Appraiser Income Approach/Part I - View Classroom Schedule
• General Appraiser Income Approach/Part II - View Classroom Schedule
• General Appraiser Sales Comparison Approach - View Classroom and Online Schedule
• General Appraiser Site Valuation & Cost Approach - View Classroom and Online Schedule
• General Appraiser Market Analysis and Highest and Best Use (or equivalent) - View Classroom Schedule
• Real Estate, Finance, Statistics and Valuation Modeling - View Classroom and Online Schedule

Credit must be received for the following Appraisal Institute course and examination:

• General Appraiser Report Writing & Case Studies - View Classroom Schedule

Credit must be received for the following Level II examinations or equivalents:

• Advanced Income Capitalization - View Classroom Schedule
• Advanced Market Analysis & Highest and Best Use or equivalent – View Classroom Schedule or Challenge Exam Available
• Advanced Sales Comparison and Cost Approaches - View Classroom Schedule or Challenge Exam Available
• OR Advanced Concepts & Case Studies - View Classroom Schedule
• Advanced Applications - View Classroom Schedule or Challenge Exam Available
• OR Advanced Concepts & Case Studies - View Classroom Schedule
